Fake Terror Obfuscates Lebanon and Iraq Failures |

“The 21 terrorist suspects arrested in the U.K. overnight had a ‘well-advanced plan’ to detonate electronic devices or liquid explosives disguised as beverages or onboard U.S.-bound aircraft, a sophisticated plot suggestive of al-Qaeda, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said,” reports Bloomberg. “The attacks were aimed at U.S.-bound planes of United Airlines, American Airlines and Continental Airlines at London’s Heathrow Airport, the Associated Press reported, citing unidentified [undoubtedly neocon] U.S. counter-terrorism officials in Washington.”
According to White House propaganda minister, Tony Snow (Job), “The president, prime minister and their key intelligence, law enforcement and security officials have been in close and regular contact. And as you would expect, he has spoken to Prime Minister Blair about these developments in recent days.”
Considering past events, including the “terrorist events” of seven-seven and nine-eleven, we can assume select “law enforcement and security officials” were “in close and regular contact” prior to this latest would-be attack as well.
In standard fashion, in order to apply the correct spin from the outset, we are told this latest operation has “global dimensions,” that is to say it will be billed as not only an “al-Qaeda” operation but other designated “global” enemies will be fingered as well.
“Last month, the global militant group al Qaeda called on Muslims to fight those who backed Israel’s attacks on Lebanon and warned of more attacks unless U.S. and British forces pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan,” reports Reuters.
In the coming hours and days, we can expect the corporate media, eager stenographers for the neocon plan, to connect the dots—blame will be affixed to Iran, Syria, and their “proxy,” Hezbollah, through “al-Qaeda,” now dedicated (or scripted) to help Hezbollah, not that the homegrown resistance group needs any help, especially from a CIA-ISI engineered terror group.
Finally, as attention has now shifted to Muslim bad guys (either imagined or a parade of patsies), Israel will likely increase the severity of its criminal behavior against the civilians of Lebanon and those of Gaza as well, as the American public will be navel gazing video footage of inconvenienced air travel passengers.

This afternoon, police have announced that are searching homes and businesses across the UK in connection with a plot to blow up planes from the UK to US. This appears to have been timed to coincide with the Home Secretary's demand that we "modify some of our freedoms". Or maybe Reid's speech was timed to coincide with the police announcement. Either way, the intention is the same - to attack the working class.
Just yesterday, the Home Secretary John Reid addressed the think tank Demos. In his speech, he claimed that the UK faced "most sustained period of severe threat since the end of World War II", and asked "What price our security, at what cost can we preserve our freedoms?" ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5257518.stm).
Today, some are reporting that Reid has been "proved right" ( http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=15archive/&entry_id), since police have publicised their probe into an alleged terrorist plot to blow up planes containing British people on their way to America. But it has been conceded that the investigation had been underway for several months, and the arrests were made for unspecified 'intelligence reasons', NOT because the attack was necessarily going to happen in the next few days ( http://news.scotsman.com/uk.cfm?id=1163182006). As Home Secretary, Reid would at least have been aware of what was about to happen. He may well even have ordered it.
Blair has already made unprecedented attacks on democratic rights, and Reid's speech shows that the government want to make even more. We must remember that it is Blair's support for Bush's oil wars that causes terrorist attacks on British and American people, not some invented "complacency" in existing laws.
Reid WAS right when he claimed that "We are probably in the most sustained period of severe threat since the end of the Second World War". But the threat is from him and his government, while working class people are the intended victims.

'm not saying I don't believe they found anything or had suspicions because it is an accusation I would not disagree with but I do not have the information to make. These sort of things will become a more regular occurance as the west fights its never-ending 'war on terror'.
Firstly, a quote from Edinburgh's Evening News.
" It is believed the covert investigation has been going on for several months and it is understood that officers made the arrests overnight not because they feared an attack was likely to happen today but for other intelligence reasons which meant they had to act quickly "
Watch and see how this is mispresented by the press. They have even cancelled flights from Edinburgh today (Again I'll quote - not because they feared an attack was likely to happen today????!!!!)

It becomes easier and easier for fanatics to recruit the general Muslim as war on terror continues. As such the war on terror really defeats its own (so called) purpose.
Quoting Enoch Powell or declaring further war does nothing to help. The fanatics have always existed, and people need to understand there are many reasons, that even I can think of, to explain why Sept 11th happened.
The US needs to stop continually repeating evil policies such as selling arms to BOTH Iraq and Iran during their late 80s conflict. Even better they could (gasp!) apologise for such attrocities. This is not to mention various other awful foreign policies over the last 60 years.
And since the war on terror begun, has there been more or less reasons fanatics can give to recruit? I think Guantanamo Bay instantly comes to mind, not to mention the two unneccesary, unwise and lost wars. And many other things.
Instead we hear that the evil terrorists hate the very way that we live. And the only way to stop this is to drop bombs on (mostly) innocent people.
Recruitment can only take place amongst angry and vulnerable feeling muslim societies, so to bomb and maim more muslims is surely only a recruiting tactic. But for whose benefit?
The people who are the least innocent in this whole sorry affair are the American government which, with the help of Karl Rove, has managed to devise a policy which keeps their business interests profits increasing, their people scared, their army fighting and the terrorism spinning out of control.

fascism is by definition an ideology that supports power structures in and of themselves - the forms of power - without having any other object.
The Nazi state is obviously everybody's favourite example.. everything was subservient to conquest and the symbols of power - the means are identical to the ends.
Modern corporate power follows the same model - the product is not important, the profits are... the ends are changed to perpetuate the means.
Fundamentalist Islam, though, is not fascism, because in the form of Allah there exists an object of allegiance and loyalty, and an end, that is distinct from the means of attaining power.
Bush's minders will be well aware of the strict definition of fascism.
Ergo, this usage is an attempt to rebrand the word 'fascism', since it can obviously be applied to the West. The object of the West - or the governments of the West - is the maintenance of supreme Western power in the world.
All talk of 'freedom' and 'democracy' is a superficial cover for the project of maintaining Western power.
Therefore the West's project is fascist, while the Islamic fundamentalists' is not.

FPF - August 11, 2006 - The group behind the privately owned Bank of England* apparently stands above law and decency, and - in an also on Internet published 'News Release' - states that they have taken to 'financial sanctions' concerning those people whose full names and addresses they publish today, people which only are accused, but not convicted of anything. They most probably are innocent.

According to the people behind the Bank of England: ''This news release is issued in respect of the financial measures taken against terrorism.'' - So: whether those people are guilty or not - they are only accused - their possible assets are frozen? Witch hunt in the UK

Much of what is now described has been taking place largely in the English-speaking world, beginning where most of our woes have recently originated in America.
Rapidly following the American trends has been Great Britain, and then to a lesser extent, but similar in many aspects, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. What still sets America apart as being the worst of the countries is the dramatic elimination of due process and justice, so that it has become largely a prosecution state with only the show trials of a few celebrities demonstrating any working defence mechanisms.
While the English-speaking countries appear to have suffered the most from the slide towards the police state and the moral panics assisting this slide, other countries are being affected to some extent, especially those where American influence is great. France appears to have been tethering on the edge, giving way to specific moral panics and then recoiling in dismay. All the signs are however that the whole world could join in the slide. Amongst these signs are the eagerness with which a few developing countries, such as Cambodia and South Africa, with the help of unscrupulous NGOs have embraced the new politics of fear and moral panic, and the corruption that this has boosted. We hope to see discussion on this web site about why the English-speaking countries were so badly affected, and why America, now followed by Great Britain has slipped so rapidly into a virtual police state.
We live in the two worlds described by Bois. One the world we appear to directly experience in a physical and biological sense and the other that of our ‘structured unconscious’, the world described by Alfred Korzybski as our ‘semantic environment’, in which incest can be acceptable and even normal depending on the place or time, while the most heinous of crimes in other places or times. We must constantly bear in mind that more than simply a state of mind, the semantic environment can drive us insane or kill us, so it must be taken as seriously as the most formidable of physical environments, such as one where wild beasts roam.
The totalitarian states into which we are sliding into in the West are better understood when we appreciate the power of our semantic environment. The crimen exceptum used for example in the witch-hunts that take place under inquisitions could not exist without a strong semantic environment supporting them. When a designated pervert or infidel is defined, the mass of the population needs a supporting semantic environment to engender its hatred and revulsion. There may be many in positions of power cleverly manipulating the semantic environment, but the multitude, which can also create the lynch mob, must believe fervently in the dogma that creates the object of revulsion.
While he is often mentioned, George Orwell gets little acknowledgement for his anticipation of the late 20th and early 21st century developments. While by 1984, his predictions appeared not to have happened, all had become fact by 2004. Consider a few. The person to be most feared by a young man is a beautiful, sexually attractive young woman. Children are also to be feared as organizations representing ‘child rights’ and the government urge them to confide in the state and not to trust their parents whom they now should spy and inform on. There is a constant war against a vague enemy going on and a politically correct new vocabulary. The most revolutionary and dangerous act is to tell the truth.

I notice that the Blair Broadcasting Conspiracy once again leads the pack in crying wolf in what appears to the average person as more fake terrorism scares to frighten the population into unquestioning submission. This will not wash; all they have achieved is to lose even more of the respect and trust of the people they are supposed to serve.

Blair Government Concocts Terror Threat - Scares British People

Yawn! Even if I wasn't actually tired, that would still be my response to the latest "terror alert" from the UK government office of Machiavellian nonsense. I mean, seriously, at what point do people start to smell a rat? Is the mass mind of the British public destined to be forever child-like and easily scared, or does the threat of the boogeyman eventually wear off? I mean, how many times can you arrest a group of patsies and claim that they were planning to attack the British public before people begin to wonder if you are just making it up?
Allegedly, the plot involved using carry on luggage to blow up 10 planes on routes from the UK to the US. Exactly how the "terrorists" were going to disguise bombs in hand luggage in such a way that they would not be seen by x-ray machines that are used as standard at all UK airports remains a mystery. Overnight, [1] 21 homegrown British Muslims were rounded up and flung into a cell for being Muslim and therefore likely patsy candidates for MI5's most recent "terrorism" stitch up. There, they will wait for British securocrats to put the final touches to the made-up "evidence" against them, which will then be presented by British securocrats to themselves and later selectively released to the fawning mainstream media.
Referring to the alleged plot Deputy police Commissioner Paul Stephenson followed the script, like all good little Police Commissioners should, [2] saying:
"This was intended to be mass murder on an unimaginable scale."
Strangely enough however, over the past 3 weeks, the whole world (minus Deputy Commissioner Paul Stephenson apparently) has not only been imagining but watching in almost real time the mass murder of at least 1,000 Lebanese civilians by Israel. Then again, Lebanese are all terrorists anyway according to Israel and its UK and US partners in crime.
It is, of course, a massive and uncanny coincidence (to which you should pay not attention whatsoever) that this "terror alert" comes just a week after UK home secretary John Reid's anti-terror campaign was [3] dealt a serious blow when Britain's three most senior judges ruled that Reid's "virtual house arrest" powers were incompatible with human rights law. Why was the Blair government attempting to give itself powers that violated human rights laws? Well, because the Blair government seems to enjoy violating human rights laws and scaring the British people into believing they will benefit from draconian legislation that will ultimately be used against them.
Interestingly, it was just yesterday that Reid, speaking to the London Think Tank Demos, stated in response to the ruling that "traditional concepts of individual rights and freedom are outmoded in the face of the 21st century terror threat." Reid failed to mention however that the terror threat was entirely fabricated by members of the American British and Israeli intelligence services and other unnamed government back room boys. Reid further stated that Britain might have to modify its freedoms in order to fight an "unconstrained enemy" which posed the "most severe and sustained threat since the end of World War II". Hitler killed the Jews, Osama wants to kill everyone. See? It's the same thing.
Reid continued: "It is up to each and all of us to ask the questions â what price security? At what cost preservation of freedom?"
Off the record, Reid continued: "At what cost the preservation of freedom? Freedom itself? If we we need to remove freedom in order to preserve it, is that not the best thing to do to secure it? Think about it. You need to give up your freedoms to retain your freedom. What's so difficult to understand about that? When challenged that he was simply parroting the nonsensical rhetoric of the Bush regime Reid countered:
"Terrorism Terrorists, Terrorists Terrorism. Islamic Terrorism, Kill Death Bombs Attacks, Terrorism Terrorists, Terrorists Terrorism. Islamic Terrorism. Hate us because of our Freedom, Take Freedom away. Fear, Obey government, Freedom Secured, Take Away Freedom, Terrorism, Freedom Safe. Terrorism Terrorists, Terrorists
Terrorism. Islamic Terrorism, Bomb Bomb Bomb Kill Death Fear."
We should remember that, on the anniversary of the July 7 suicide bombings, London's police chief Ian Blair (who ordered and then covered up the murder of innocent Brazilian electrician Charles de Menezes last year) said the threat had "palpably increased" in the year following the attacks on the capital and that "further atrocities" were being planned. Self-fulfilling prophecy? Blair did not, however, say who was planning the atrocities, leaving open the very real possibility (supported by the many inconsistencies in the official report on the July 7th train bombings in London) that Blair himself is part of the cabal plotting fake terror attacks on the British public. Hey, wouldn't be the first time.
As for the passengers stranded at UK airports; MI5's psyops manual dictates that, whenever possible, humiliation should be used to aid the process of melding the minds of the masses towards a strong belief in the reality of fantasy. To this end, any sheeple foolish enough to attempt to fly from a UK airport today are being forbidden from taking any hand luggage onboard and are being given clear plastic bags for things like their wallets and keys, essential medication unboxed sanitary items etc.
It may yet be suggested that, on boarding, each passenger should hold up his little clear plastic bag and loudly declare "look, it's only my wallet and keys, I am not a terrorist." At which point the cabin crew should ask: "Are you sure you are not a terrorist?" To which each passenger in turn will have to respond: "Yes, I am sure I am not a terrorist because I am not Muslim." Female passengers would be required to make a statement to the effect that tampons, clearly visible in their little plastic bags, are not sticks of dynamite.
Muslim passengers however, are a different kettle of fish altogether, as we all already know. They will be required to leave open the possibility that they are indeed terrorists by affirming:
"While I believe I am not a terrorist, and the clearly observable contents of my little clear plastic bag would seem to suggest as much, since I am a Muslim, I may be harboring terroristic tendencies of which I am not consciously aware. As such, I would ask all non-Muslim passengers to please view me and may actions with extreme suspicion. Thank you, and god bless the Queen and Tony Blair."
For his part, the sniveling, whiny nerd that is Tony Blair, in true colonial style, is currently enjoying the hospitality of the natives in Barbados on his annual holiday, while also "keeping in touch" with developments and being regularly informed of national scareometer levels. Blair also took the step of briefing Bush on the situation, and is reported to have told him that he knows jack squat about the situation since it was all made up anyway, but that the British public have once again been successfully cowed by a non-existent government-promoted "terror threat". On hearing of the "plot" Bush stated that it was "a stark reminder that the United States is at war with Islamic fascists." No Islamic fascists were available for comment or to confirm or deny that they either existed or were at war with anyone.
Nevertheless, coming at a point in time when more and more people around the world, and even in the US, are [4] beginning to suspect that the real fascists reside in the US, British and Israeli halls of power, the 'plot' is something of a 'coup', a stroke of luck, a real 'coincidence', for Bush and Blair. But don't let your skepticism run away with you just yet...
Director of US Homeland Buffoonery Michael Chertoff [5] seems have the low down on the 'dern t'rrists', stating that the London Plot was "sophisticated, it had a lot of members and it was international in scope, it was in some respects suggestive of an al-Qaida plot."
The "respects" in which the plot was "suggestive of al-Qaeda" appear to be the fact that ordinary Muslims were involved because, as you and I know, all 1 billion Muslims are terrorists. Chertoff however, understands this fact better than anyone.
The son of a Rabbi and himself an ardent Zionist, Chertoff holds dual Israeli-American nationality and, despite this, was unanimously approved by the US Senate for the post of "Homeland Security Chief" on February 15th 2005. Indeed, it is this background that makes Chertoff eminently capable of distinguishing a terrorist from someone who poses no threat to the American people. For example, Chertoff's previous post was as head of the criminal division at the Department of Justice where he "helped trace the 9/11 terrorist attacks to the al-Qaida network." And what a fine job he did! In late 2001, Chertoff wasted no time in concluding that the 5 Israeli Mossad agents who were detained after being spotted filming, laughing and cheering the collapse of the twin towers on 9/11 should be released and sent back to Israel. Chertoff was also responsible for freeing the over 100 members of an [6] exposed Israeli spy ring in the US in the months before the 9/11 attacks.
So take it from me, there are good people on the job; people in the know; people with their fingers on the pulse, or rather up the back of, the Islamic terrorism puppet show. Your job is to simply consent to the abolition of your civil freedoms. Of course, your government could just take those freedoms away from you, but it's nicer all round and helps to maintain the charade of Democracy - "the worship of Jackals by Jackasses" - if you can be scared into asking for it.

Britain’s airline terror plot: Questions that need to be answered
by the editorial board
The claim that American and British security forces have thwarted a terrorist plot to blow up commercial flights between Britain and the United States should not be accepted uncritically. It is impossible to determine at this point whether or not such an attack was in the offing, although the mass media have, as usual, reported the assertions of the British and American governments as indisputable fact, without bothering to ask for any specific information that would substantiate the official story.
The British police statement that the alleged plotters aimed to “create mass murder on an unimaginable scale” by blowing up mid-flight an unspecified number of aircraft is chilling. The far-reaching security measures that have been implemented—including the shutdown of London’s Heathrow Airport and an indefinite ban on carry-on luggage—add to the climate of fear and apprehension.
At a time such as this—in the midst of spectacular claims from London and Washington, a media barrage supporting them, and a massive disruption of commercial flights resulting from extreme security measures—it is all the more imperative that people not suspend their capacity for critical thought and political judgement.
Raids in the early hours of Thursday morning on homes and business premises in London and the West Midlands resulted in 21 arrests. Spokesmen for the US and British governments asserted that those arrested were involved in the most significant terrorist plot since 9/11.
Later reports said that 24 people had been arrested in Britain and more had been detained in Pakistan. Among those arrested were a Muslim charity worker and a Heathrow Airport employee with an all-area access pass, according to Britain’s Channel 4 News. Five suspects in the plot are still at large, according to ABC News, which cited US sources.
BBC News reported Thursday evening that the arrests were the result of a long-standing investigation coordinated between the US, British and Pakistani governments. British Home Secretary John Reid in a press conference earlier on Thursday said Prime Minister Tony Blair had briefed President George Bush on the impending arrests and security measures over the weekend.
Subsequent reports claimed the plotters had planned to target simultaneously up to ten aircraft from three US carriers by smuggling onboard liquid chemical explosives disguised as beverages or electronic devices.
US intelligence officials said the plotters hoped to stage a “dry run” today (Friday) and the actual attack would have followed days later. A senior congressional source claimed the plotters planned to mix a sports drink with a peroxide-based paste to make an “explosive cocktail” that could be triggered by an MP3 player or cell phone.
President George Bush made a brief statement mid-day Thursday that was calculated to heighten public anxieties and exploit the alleged terror plot to justify the panoply of reactionary policies his administration has pursued since 9/11 in the name of the “war on terror.”
Speaking on an airport runway in Green Bay, Wisconsin, he said that the thwarted plot was a “stark reminder that this nation is at war with Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us who love freedom.” He suggested that the plot vindicated the measures—massive domestic spying, military tribunals, detentions without trial—taken by his administration to “protect the American people,” and went on to warn that “it is a mistake to believe there is no threat to the United States of America.”
The World Socialist Web Site has no information that allows us to make a definitive judgement on the existence or non-existence of a terrorist plot on the scale claimed. However, it is the responsibility of the US and British governments to produce the facts that would substantiate their allegations and justify the extreme security measures they have taken, and to present these facts to the public in a clear and concise manner.
They have produced no such factual account or substantiation.
Neither the White House nor Downing Street has any right to expect people to accept their claims at face value, or place confidence in any of their statements. The war against Iraq was legitimised on the basis of false claims of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction and ties between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda. These lies have destroyed forever the credibility of Bush and Blair.
If it is true that such a heinous crime was being planned, the responsibility for this ultimately rests with the policies pursued by Washington and London. Ever since 9/11, both Bush and Blair have employed the mantra of the “war on terror” as a cover for their predatory war aims in the Middle East, immensely intensifying anti-American and anti-British sentiment within the Muslim world. At the same time, the “war on terror” has been used domestically as the pretext for an unprecedented assault on democratic rights.
Faced with a worsening debacle in Afghanistan and Iraq, and massive international opposition to their support for Israel’s devastation of Lebanon, both governments have an interest in perpetuating an atmosphere of hysteria. Such a climate serves to intimidate their opponents and justify ever more draconian measures at home and abroad.
In point of fact, the official accounts in Britain of the alleged terror plot lack any specific or verifiable facts and are remarkably short on detail. The statements by American officials are no better when it comes to serious substantiation. They are, however, more detailed in their claims.
US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff told a televised news conference that the plot was “a very sophisticated plan and operation” and was close to fruition. “It was not a circle with a handful of people sitting around and dreaming,’’ he said. “They had accumulated the capability necessary and they were well on their way.’’
The plot appeared to have been aimed at US carriers flying out of Heathrow, he continued. It was “international in scope” and suggestive of Al Qaeda.
He did not give a specific date for the timing of the plan, but said it may have been before the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. “I can’t tell you they had a particular date in mind,” he said. “Nor can I tell you that they would have waited that long. This was quite close to the execution date.”
Chertoff offered no explanation of how security services knew that a terror attack was imminent when they didn’t know the target date for its execution.
This is by no means the only question mark hanging over official accounts.
Britain’s Home Secretary Reid gave the impression in his press conference that the evidence prompting the arrests came from the UK, and CNN reported that information gathered after recent arrests in Pakistan convinced British investigators they had to act urgently to stop the plot. However, Britain’s Channel 4 reported that UK authorities had acted based on intelligence provided by the CIA.
Moreover, if Blair was in discussions with Bush over the weekend about an “imminent” terrorist attack, why did he still leave for his holiday in Barbados on Tuesday? And given that the plot is said to have targeted planes, why did the security services allow him to do so?
And if the threat posed by the plot was considered dangerous enough to warrant raising the terror alert in the UK from “severe” to “critical” and to code red in the US, why were no arrests made for five days? And why was the terror alert only raised after the arrests were made and not before?
No such questions have been asked by the media. And yet recent months have seen a number of alleged terrorist plots—in the US, Canada and Australia—that were supposedly thwarted by the security services. In each case, mass arrests were made of people who, according to the indictments, had merely discussed terrorist acts. No concrete plans were discovered, no weapons or explosives seized. And in most of these cases, the supposed plots were initiated and encouraged by government informers who acted as agent provocateurs and entrapped the alleged conspirators.
In the case of July’s so-called “tunnel bomb” plot in New York, the purported conspirators were foreign nationals who had never set foot in the US.
As for the political utility of the current terror scare, it should be noted that only hours before Thursday’s raids, British Home Secretary Reid gave a major speech in London in which he accused opponents of the government’s anti-democratic legislation of undermining the “war on terror.”
In the face of what he called “probably the most sustained period of severe threat since the end of the second world war,” Reid decried those who “don’t get it,” blaming them for the fact that “we remain unable to adapt our institutions and legal orthodoxy as fast as we need to.”
Making it clear that the required “adaptation” meant the gutting of traditional democratic rights, he added: “Sometimes we may have to modify some of our own freedoms in the short term in order to prevent their misuse and abuse by those who oppose our fundamental values and would destroy all of our freedoms in the modern world.”

Actually, you're quite wrong there. In most, if not every 'civilised' country, the name of an accused person, and sometimes his or her photograph, is often published before trial. There's nothing subjudice about that. Pretty much anything is able to be published BEFORE that person is charged with an offence.
Once charges have been laid (and none has in the current UK investigation) the media must refrain from publishing anything which may prejudice the fair trial of an accused person. This may include publishing photographs of the person or reporting on their previous criminal activities.
The case of the paedophile priest Gerard Risdale is a good example. Before his guilty pleae had been received by the court, media published photographs of him as well as narratives of his sexual offending over the years.
No cries of prejudice were heard about that.
Maybe he should have had a beard (without the moustache bit) and an name like 'Abdul'. That might have agitated a few people about him being pre-judged. |
