What are the dangerous chemicals police found when they went fishing? Current rating: 0
08 Nov 2005
If police say they were making bombs when they were painting motor vehicles then the only terrorist act that wasn't prevented was when police went on a fishing expedition.

Better still what could they find in most homes or paint shops?

What were the chemicals? Copper sulfate, tetraminecopper chlorate (TACC) as required to make copper sulfate, are available in most households. For example, sulfuric acid that can be obtained from a car battery.

Copper sulfate is a fungicide commonly used to control bacterial and fungal diseases of field crops. The chemical is formed of a naturally-occurring inorganic salt and copper, an essential trace element in plant and animal nutrition. Copper sulfate is available as a dust, a wet-able powder, and a fluid concentrate. It is blue and odorless. Source: Extension Toxicology Network.

Lead picrate, these chemicals are available through suppliers for tinsmiths, laboratories, and painters.

Diazodinitrophenol (DDNP) including sodium hydroxide, concentrated sulfuric acid, and potassium or sodium nitrate.

Lead monoxide can be obtained at pharmacies. Wood alcohol, a screwdriver, glass jars, and metal pans - are needed, along with sodium or potassium nitrate.

If police say they were making bombs when they were painting motor vehicles then the only terrorist act that wasn't prevented was when police went on a fishing expedition.

If police decide to go through homes they will find something they can get a hook into no doubt.

Be very alarmed people you can now be legally victimized by police. Be accused of a crime and thrown to the lions with the worst of the worst until you can prove your innocents.

Wait for evidence before jumping to conclusions

Clear liquid chemicals seized from a Lakemba home during the raids are believed to be ingredients of triacetone tiperoxide (TATP), a powerful explosive used in the London terror attacks.

AFP officers were tipped off in July by a Sydney chemical supplier that members of a suspected terrorist cell were trying to acquire the ingredients of the highly volatile crystal explosive.

The substance is so powerful only a few hundred grams are needed.

In in its finished form TATP is undetectable by bomb sniffer dogs and other conventional

Whether the chemicals were being sought for illegal purposes will be tested in court, along with all the other evidence to be presented.

Then we'll have the opportnuity to develop INFORMED opinions as to the efficacy of police actions.

Unlike the above bozo who has chosen to grace us with their demonstrably uninformed opinion before any specific evidence has been released.

No it's a secret

You're in big trouble informed one because in todays courts no one is being informed because it's a secret.

No details, no time, nothing specific, no target, no place. Now prove your innocent amonst the media giants and corrupt politicians.

You'd best be changing your name to GuessOne or SecretTwo it would at least make some sense wouldn't it?

EXTRA, EXTRA YOU'LL NEVER KNOW ABOUT IT?

It's not a bomb officer, I was just going to mop the kitchen floor

Isn't TATP a catalyst for fibreglass resin?

That would explain why it was found in a panel beating workshop. This whole thing could get ridiculous. Imagine if everyone with ammonia in their house could be considered a terrorist. The authorities would only need to say they found bomb making chemicals and off to Siberia you go.

In the current paranoid and oppressive climate fostered by Howard and co. everyone is jumping at shadows and straining to get a pat from the master.

These guys just arrested could be terrorists but it could be that they are be being made an example of because they were outspoken against the Coalition of Murderers.

Organic peroxides, like their inorganic counterparts, are powerful bleaching agents.

Occurence and use

Organic peroxides find numerous uses in various industries, as accelerators, activators, catalysts, cross-linking agents, curing and vulcanization agents, hardeners, initiators and promoters. Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, benzoyl peroxide and to much smaller degree acetone peroxide are used as radical initiators for radical polymerization of some resins, eg. polyester and silicone, often encountered when making fiberglass.

Ketone peroxides, including acetone peroxide, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, and benzoyl peroxide, find applications as initiators for polymerization reactions of eg. silicone or polyester resins, often encountered when making fiberglass. For these uses, the peroxides are typically in the form of a dilute solution in an organic solvent, however, even commercial products with higher concentrations of organic peroxides can form crystals around the lid when older, making the can shock-sensitive. Methyl ethyl ketone is more common for this purpose, however, as it is stable in storage.
