Recent events in Sydney have shown the necessity to stop scapegoating the Muslim community that would prevent racial and religious incitement.
There have been clear examples of the Prime Minister scapegoating Muslims as alleged terrorists which encourages racial intolerance and religious violence.
From the taunts on Cronulla beach to text messages and calls to burn down churches.
John Howard is not responsible to lead this country which has caused the bigoted violence as Sydney braces for the prospect of another fiery weekend.
Now as much as the riots were a very ugly scene with lots of criminal activity involved, it's probably difficult to argue that they were actually caused by John Howard but his insistence that it wasn't about race hate is a worry.
You need to acknowledge that people should have some protection if other people including the Prime Minister are whipping-up violence between religious groups or between ethnic groups.
There are incitement rules for broadcasters who intentionally inflame their audiences so why hasn't Alan Jones been taken to task?
If statements are directed at encouraging others to go out and burn down buildings, beat up people and step across that line to committing violence something needs to be done from the top down. |
